Taking Suggestions on Suggest
Tuesday, September 09, 2008
Google Suggest is one of the things that makes the omnibox so cool. Just type a few letters and Google Chrome will often point you at the search query or the page that you were trying to type. Based on feedback from privacy groups, the Suggest team is making some changes to the information they log. You can read more about it on the Google Blog.

Can you allow us to use the "TAB" button to go through the list of stuff that drops down from the address bar? Both IE and Firefox do this, it saves time as we dont have to move our hand over to the arrows or onto our mouse as we are typing stuff in the address bar.
Thanks.

Why is this complex? Make it a USER OPTION to turn ON|OFF (preferred OFF by default).
The problem is not so much what you do in regards to all privacy issues, but that you don't make it an option.

Um, Hector - it *is* an option - go into the wrench menu, then Options, Manage Default search and uncheck the use a suggestion service - voila, no more Suggestions. While I'd agree that maybe it should be off by default (which I am sure, if you respond, that will be your gripe) I'd also suggest actually looking to see if there is an option before complaining that there isn't.

A less roundabout way of managing bookmarks would be welcome...
I've 3,000 bookmarks in 80-plus folders. Normally, I edit in Windows Explorer/Favorites with auto update in IE.
Unless I'm missing something, Chrome process involves tedious single-step moving/editing and offers no sorting tool?

Often, Maritime users and emergency personnel have to access the web over satellite phones, often with limited bandwidth connection. If there was a desktop browser which reports itself to servers as a mobile phone browser, it would really help. That way, if the website has a "mobile" version, the website(s) would deliver the pages much quicker. The website developer wouldn't have to do a special build for satellite users, and the user won't have to manually turn on/off graphics, ads, etc. since this will already have been done in the most optimal way by the website developer. Can you put an option into Chrome for it to behave as if it were running on a mobile device?

I installed Google Chrome, I am very impressed with the simplicity of Chrome its very clean looking, like how every thing works independent to all the other web tabs.
Here is my issue that i'm trying to fix. When i was asked to set chrome to its default browser i didn't want to make it my default browser until i was looking at the program, how it worked, when i went to make it my default browser i did go into the control panel under options. When i clicked the main button to switch the default browser button to Google Chrome it wouldn't allow me to change the settings. I tried to reinstall the program to have the same issue. I am wondering if there is a fix for this solution?

Firefox has an option where you can view a page in no-style, is there a way to do that in chrome? And if not, you guys at google should look into adding it. It's really popular for myspace users and a lot of my friends downloaded firefox just so they could use the no-style option.

How about a bookmark manager so that i can organize all my bookmarks easily? I don't see it in the options or anywhere.
All my "unorganized" Firefox imports are all over the places because they are no longer TABBED anymore. Maybe some drag and drop features?
RSS feed features are lacking too, it would be easier to just read in a click.
Maybe if we could blog right inside the browser, e.g. scribefire for chrome, would be a good idea?
I do love extensions.
Thanks.

(1) loopback adblocking is fun, don't get me wrong, but why in in-chome blocking solution? Faster, leaner, more optionalistical (coined here now) than AdBlockPlus!
(2) nanny-chrome is a usage killer for me for sites with content I want, but no current in-chrome mitigation features (see also loopback proxy)
(3) tab rows
(4) something akin to Stylish for the fox or cleanup retard color choices in CSS
(4b) chrome already has in inspect widget
(5) better bookmark management -- after bookmark added
(6) who doesn't love an open extensions api?
(6b) zero tolerance for malware in extensions (adware, url sneakiness, local OS app launch at user privilege, spyware, googlesque tracking)
(7) clarity on preferences storage... ZERO online an option?
more to follow

I have a widescreen monitor and I would really like it if there was a quick button you could click to make the browser window a standard 1024 pixels wide, or 1280.
Then I could get my window large enough to see a website the way that it was intended, without just pressing on maximise which leaves big empty spaces at either side of the site.

On Firefox, IE and Opera, BOOKMARKS ARE VISIBLE 24/7/52 ON THE SIDEBAR, AS STANDARD.
If this feature is NOT available on Chrome, then the browser is slow and 100% unusable. I am constantly switching between dozens of sites, sometimes up to 40. As it is, 5 hours work on Firefox, IE or Opera will take 6 hours with Chrome. This is BASIC and I find it hard to believe that this clearly has not been thought out at all by Google.
So what is this waste of space on the left in aid of? PUT A SIDEBAR THERE!
Basic 10-year-old stuff!

This evening for some reason, everything I click on the chrome program window (not just the web page within the browser), I get a pop-up menu which whilst not quite the same as the normal right-click menu, is very similar. It appears to fail Chrome to the point where I can't shut it down and need to use ALT + F4.
Has anyone seen this and does anyone know of a fix please?

I should note that I have been using Chrome for weeks and love the thing. I don't need favourites, though the main ones are there, I find the Omni Box very useful and I accept that currently the beta version doesn't auto-fill.
I have always hated toolbars, no matter who they are supplied by, but it includes Google and am pleased that they don't have Google Toolbar installed as default.
This context menu issue is a pain as I have now got my head so much around Chrome, and really love it.

1. there is no way for users who don't know about the hotkeys to learn about them. you need to have tool tips or something other than just reading all the way through the help file to learn these. experienced users will have no problem, but you have to cater to others as well.
2. it would be nice if there was a way to scroll between tabs. i think some of the management for tabs thus far is great, but this is one place it is lacking.

A good job... as a beginning.
However, unless/until I see:
1. A sidebar for bookmarks (pref at left or either) - at least as good as Firefox 3 (which could be better).
2. The ability to determine position of the tab bar.
... I will not use chrome in any regular way - certainly not as default browser.

my view for what it's worth is that the whole process of chrome/chromium was to minimalise the browser to the point where it does not interfere if one is using online programs, as opposed to being a remake of Internet Explorer. It seems to me that by introducing favourites/bookmarks, toolbars, and all the little add-ons that all one is doing is remaking something that for most of us is clunky and resource expensive rather than developing something entirely new for the Web 2.0 environment.
Someone suggested a box of tricks that one could turn on if required, but I cannot escape the view that if one needs bookmarks, history, etc etc one may as well use Firefox or Internet Explorer and leave chrome/chromium to those of us for whom the Web is our daily bread, where we access programming, information, data collection and security all in real time.
My only concern was chromium is its capacity to fall over at the drop of a hat. Currently, for me at least chrome is providing in excess of 90% of my requirements vis-a-vis my browsing and program interaction.

I switched over to Ubuntu operating system. unfortunately as a new Linux user Goggle Chrome is not supported with Linux. I really liked the program & features if you ever get Chrome set-up on Linux I would continue to use the program. I thought when you suggest that Chrome is a open source program that it would be adaptable to all operating systems.
The reason I got rid of Microsoft is after 2 separate times Microsoft did an update I was locked out of my computer both times. I needed to format the pc to get back into the operating system. I was quite annoyed and was also a waste of time.
I will never want to touch Microsoft programs due to that issue.
